Scoring is underway on The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See, a feature-length science documentary by Brian Dunning (creator and host of the award-winning Skeptoid podcast).

I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Brian on several projects in the past, including the critical-thinking documentaries Principles of Curiosity and Here Be Dragons; podcast The Feeding Tube; and a handful of musical episodes of the Skeptoid podcast itself. Scoring this latest project feels like getting the band back together!

Yesterday’s panel for Grammy in the Schools Fest 2023 was cookin—to borrow a phrase from fellow panelist Brian Vickers (music supervisor for Disney). Thanks to Julie Mutansky and the entire team at the Grammy Museum for making the event run smoothly and seamlessly, and for making us all feel so welcome! Can’t wait to do it again.

Scoring is complete on Unkind Cut, the short film from Marc Pitre. The premiere screening will take place Monday night at Loyola Marymount University.

In other news, you may have seen posts in my social media regarding storm damage to my home and studio last weekend. I’m happy to report that the cat and I are safe and unhurt, and that recovery is underway.

The tree that hit my studio has been removed, and I’m able to continue working as repairs begin. Thank you to everyone who has reached out—it means the world to me.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the production, and fingers crossed for a terrific result on awards night, April 16!

The New Year has started off hot around the studio! Coffee consumption has resumed pre-holiday levels.

Scoring is ongoing on a short film, Unkind Cut; a commercial spot for a confidential client; and the Society of Camera Operators awards show (I’m thrilled this one is back, live and in person in Hollywood next month, after a multi-year COVID hiatus).

Upcoming film and television projects—including a sequel to 2021’s Amazon hit Mistletoe Mixup—are already on the books and will keep things hopping until late Spring…check back for updates here, as always.

Going dark here for the remainder of the holiday season to celebrate with family and friends… and to do a little composing, naturally. To everyone who visits this page: Thank you for your interest and your support throughout 2022! Here’s to all kinds of fun new adventures in the New Year ahead.

Congratulations to Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss, winners of The Amazing Race 34! The couple were first to cross this cycle’s Finish Line at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

This the second time former contestants from the CBS show Big Brother have won the competition and claimed the million-dollar prize.

The next round of casting is complete… shooting is underway… and we’re looking forward to more adventures on The Amazing Race 35. See you then!

CUE OF THE MOMENT

Manufacturing tension is one of my biggest jobs on The Amazing Race, and this cue, from the show’s 23rd cycle (2013), is a good example. The creative brief was to write something that ramped up the tension of a Detour event that needed to feel more important, more pulse-pounding.

Teams were in the United Arab Emirates, so there was also a need for music to convey a sense of place, but this was secondary to making the music as intense as possible. I layered in a few musical themes that will be familiar to long-time listeners, but mostly this thing is about over-the-top percussion and drive. Perfect for dressing up a prize camel, which is what the event was all about. —LHS
